Active Peer Persistence is a capability for HPE Alletra 9000 and HPE Primera storage that helps you keep applications running even if one site goes down. It provides automatic, transparent failover between two storage systems.

- Your LUNs are active at both the source and target sites, so hosts can access storage from either location.

How does automatic transparent failover work?
With Active Peer Persistence, both storage arrays (source and target) present the same LUNs as active to the hosts. The hosts see a single logical resource, even though it is backed by two systems in different sites.
When a site issue occurs:
- The solution detects the problem and automatically fails over I/O to the surviving site.
- This failover is designed to be transparent to the hosts, so applications continue to run without needing manual storage remapping.
- Because both sides are active, you can distribute workloads across sites during normal operation and still maintain access if one site becomes unavailable.
